The jury say that lie was seised in fee of a messuage
and 2 closes of pasture and 2 1/2 virgates of land in Ratcliff Culey, and of
another messuage 4 other closes and 4 other virgates of land in Ratcliffe Culey,
formerly in the occupation of John Pulteney esq. And of another messuage 2
crofts and 3 other virgates of land in Ratcliffe Culey, called Atherston lands
or Ludfords lands, formerley in the occupation of William Gretton esq., and of
another croft and 9 selions of land in Ratcliffe Culey. And of another messuage,
3 crofts and 4 other virgates of land in Ratcliffe Culey, and of a meadow called
Gose meadow and a pond called Hickpoole in Shepey parva, which messuage and 4
virgates were in the occupation of Robert Parre, esq., and formerley were parcel
of the possessions of the abbey of Merevale. And of another messuage and 4 1/2
virgates of land in Ratcliffe Culey, bought from John Perkins, esq. And of
another virgate of land in Ratcliffe Culey called Bockland. And of another
messuage and 4 other virgates in Shepey parva, late in the tenure of Edward
Mauley. And of another messuage and 2 other virgates in Shepey parva called
Clarke’s farm. And of a capital messuage and a piece of pasture called
Shortheath,, and of a wood called Wadlands in Over Sheile.
And of 2s. rent issuing from certain lands of ???
Heathcott in Over Sheile. And of the advowson of Nether Sheile church, and a
cottage in Appleby in the occupation of Daniel Foster and Samuel Foster, and a
messuage and 8 virgates of land in Atterton a close of pasture and 3 closes of
meadow in Wyken called Spicelev or Pitchley field. And, so seised, on 17 June,
1613, Bartholomew Farmer by his deed, settled to trustees part of the above on
himself and Ursula, his wife, for lives, then to the use of John Farmer, son of
Bartholomew and his male issue ; certain lands called spiceley to the use of the
said John Farmer, his son, and Mary, his wife, and their joint male issue.
Bartholomew Farmer died on 23 Dec. last at Ratcliffe Culey. John Farmer is his
son and heir and 34 years old and more. Ursula survives at Ratcliffe Culey. Most
of the lands in Ratcliffe Culey were held of George Foxe, as of his manor of
Ratcliffe Culey, formerly " Purfrey’s manor,” by fealty, in free and
common socage, and worth 20s. Other lands in Ratcliffe Culev were held of the
king, as of his manor of East Greenwich, in free socage and worth 10s. The lands
in Shepey parva were held of the king by knight service, and worth 40s. Bartholomew Farmer enfeoffed Edward Farmer, his second
son, of Clarke’s farm.

The jury say that he was seised in fee of 2 messuages,
a toft or croft and 5 virgates of land, meadow and pasture in Ratcliffe Culey,
and of a cottage and a close called “ le Plashe “ in Stoke Golding. And of a
moiety of 3 virgates of land, meadow and pasture in Atterton, in the parish of
Witherley, and a croft containing one rood in Atterton. William Famer died on 6 August last at Ratcliffe Culey. John
Farmer is his son and heir and 30 years
old and more. The lands in Ratcliffe Culey were held of George Fox, gent., as of
his manor of Ratcliffe Culey, in free and common socage, and. a rent of a lb. of
cummin, and worth 20s. The close in Stoke Golding is parcel of the manor of
Stoke Golding, and held of William Wollaston esq., as of his manor of Upton, in free and common socage by
suit of court and a rent of 10s. yearly, and worth 5s. The lands in Atterton
were held of the king, as of the honor of Leicester, in free socage, by suit of
court and a rent of 3s. 4d., and worth 2s.
